Junior infants to 6th class have started G.A.A coaching lessons with John Condon evey Thursday. John will be coaching fundamental movement exercises, coordination drills and the fundamentals to playing camogie and hurling. Week 1 was very enjoyable and pupils are really looking forward to training with John every Thursday. View a video of Kilkishen National School's Proclamation Day celebrations here. Well done to the girls' basketball team who came 4th in the Community Games Basketball Competition over the Easter holidays. They did exceptionally well, beating Quin in round 1 but were narrowly defeated by Doora Barefield in the semi-final and Cree in the play-off. Their coach Martina O'Hagan has done wonderful work with them which is greatly appreciated. We now wish the girls and boys in Kilkishen NS the very best of luck in the upcoming Marion Keane basketball tournament.
As part of the celebrations for Proclamation Day, pupils in 5th and 6th class reimagined the proclamation for 2016. The pupils agreed on six themes they felt were important issues in Ireland today. Pupils worked in groups drafting, editing and publishing their agreed paragraph. The final document was printed, framed and presented to our guests of honour at the Proclamation Day ceremony. Anyone that would like to read this document can do so below.
Kilkishen boys and girls teams competed in the FAI 5 a-side schools competition at Lee's Road today. Our boys team were competing in a group with Cooraclare, Kilfenora and Gael Scoil Shannon. In the opening game the boys had a narrow victory over Gael Scoil Shannon winning 2-1. The Kilkishen goals were scored by Mikey Canny and Fionn Hickey. Adrian Kelly had a great game in goals. The next game was very close but with Kilkishen chasing a 1-0 deficit they conceded late on to lose 2-0 to Cooraclare. In the final group game Kilkishen faced the unbeaten Kilfenora boys in a thrilling contest. A great run and cross from Darragh Moroney was converted by Mickey Canny to give Kilkishen the lead. With minutes remaining Kilfenora were awared a free kick and after a goalmouth scramble the ball was stroked home for the equalizer. With time almost Darragh Moroney drove forward and unleashed an unstopable shot to the back of the Kilfenora net. The final whistle blew resulting in a great win for the Kilkishen boys. Three teams, Kilkishen, Kilfenora and Cooraclare all finished with 6 points with only one team to progress. Goal difference is all that separated Kilkishen from qualifying as group winners. Well done to the entire panel of boys for there efforts during the competition. |
