Halloween festivities are well and truly underway in Kilkishen N.S. Here are 1st and 2nd Class all dressed up in their creative costumes! The class enjoyed watching Ms Fawl's class' superb performances outside. They got the opportunity to showcase some of their Halloween rhymes and songs too! The boys and girls loved doing the Bog Walk in the sunshine showing off their stylish and scary costumes! We had such a spooktacular day today! All the children looked amazing in their fancy dress costumes and they had an ideal opportunity to show them off when they performed a variety of songs, poems and dances for the other classes. Our 'audiences' took turns to spectate from outside the astro-turf, while 4th and 5th Class put on a fantastic show. We then enjoyed a 'Witch Walk' through the village where we scared many the passerby. Happy Halloween Everyone!!! Check out these videos of their performances.
The students in 2nd and 3rd class made a great effort for our school dress up day to celebrate Halloween. Have a great midterm boys and girls.
Yesterday, 1st and 2nd Class got the opportunity to enjoy puppetry from the comfort of their own classroom! Puppeteer and Puppet Film Maker, Tommy Baker facilitated a Puppetry Workshop through Zoom. The children were whisked away on a magical mystery tour hosted by Eamonn High, a puppet from Your Man's Puppets. His show included a mixture of storytelling, the legend of Billy Goats Gruff and a variety act. After the entertaining live performance, Tommy gave a guided tour of his workshop and invited the children to ask questions they had about his work, his puppets and his shows. Tommy brought the children behind-the-scenes on how different puppets can be created and operated and emphasized how every performance involves imagination and creatively connecting with the audience. And what an engaging and enthusiastic audience the children were for Tommy! 1st and 2nd Class created spooky spiders and skeletons in preparation for the Halloween festivities. They also brought their imagination to the 'Daily Mile' today by doing a 'Zombie Lap' around the Astro-Turf to finish their mile in scary style! 5th & 6th class were busy creating chemical reactions in science today. Needless to say the pumpkins were not very impressed!

Keep up the great work everyone and best of luck for the week ahead. The boys and girls in 1st and 2nd Class have been learning all about autumn. The 'Leaves are Falling' Rhyme inspired the children to paint autumn coloured leaves on the windows as if they were falling down in our classroom! 'Cool' and 'Warm' colours were used in contrast to make beautiful leaf art paintings. The class were learning the poem 'The Squirrel' and did a directed drawing of a squirrel. Well done to all the boys and girls for being so artistic and creative. You have made our classroom such a bright and colourful place to learn and have fun in! TangramsToday the 5th Class children learned about tangrams. The tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle consisting of seven shapes. The shapes can be arranged to create all kinds of other interesting shapes. The children did an amazing job. Well done!
Mother and Child Mothers hold a high position in Indian culture, and motherhood has been extensively represented in Indian art. We looked at the relationship between mother and child as portrayed by modern Indian artists such as M.V. Dhurandhar, M.F. Husain and Jamini Roy. The children used chalk pastels to express their understanding of this beautifully simple relationship between mother and child. Venetian Masks
Venice is so much fun for young and old alike and it fascinates everyone! Carnival is one of the most famous traditions in Venice that takes place in the month of February and for this reason the mask making is known world wide! Mask making and wearing is deeply rooted in local history and a symbol of the city. We learned about the traditional Carnival of Venice and the children decorated their own masks. Check out their fabulous designs.
Following recent elections the new Parents Association Committee have met and elected their executive for the coming year. Thank you to all members for agreeing to sit and work on committee. Updates on the work of the PAC will be contained in each monthly school newsletter.
