Thank you to Martina O'Hagan and Edel McInerney for all the training sessions they have worked with the pupils. The students of 1st and 2nd class are learning the importance of following a recipe. We decided to learn how to make banana bread. It is a healthy food option therefore follows the schools healthy eating policy. I have uploaded the recipe for everyone to try!!!!!! Banana Bread RecipePrint
The best bananas to use for banana bread are those that are over-ripe. The yellow peels should be at least half browned, and the bananas inside squishy and browning. Ingredients
2 In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until completely smooth. Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas. 3 Mix in the baking soda and salt. Stir in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Mix in the flour. 4 Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour at 350°F (175°C), or until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean. 5 Remove from oven and cool completely on a rack. Remove the banana bread from the pan. Slice and serve. (A bread knife helps to make slices that aren't crumbly.) The Parents Association are busy preparing a Kilkishen N.S. 2017 calendar that will feature pupils throughout the school. Class, group , staff and special achievement photos were taken today that will make up the various images for the calendar. A special whole school image was captured with the use of a special drone operated by local man Pat Tierney. Thank you to Kevin Donovan, photographer, and the members of the Parents Association for their time and effort to create the calendar. Basketball coaching with Martina O' Hagan and Richard Greaves recommenced last Thursday with every class from infants to 6th. Pupils were learning the skills of passing, dribbling and receiving and finished with some mini condition games. Thank you to Martina and Richard that give their time and expertise. Members of the Green Schools Committee are now taking daily water meter readings. We will analyse the results and present our findings on the website. On Tuesday, we held our third Green Schools meeting, the minutes of which can be read below. Our school is hoping to get an active flag this year. To help our students to keep active and healthy the active school committee has decided to put up a healthy recipe each week for parents and students to cook. The importance of diet in keeping healthy cannot be underestimated. This week the committee has chosen tasty chicken fajitas. ENJOY!!!! INGREDIENTS
