Civil engineer Johnny Whelan, who is a member of Engineer's Ireland, paid us a visit to explain to the children what his job entails. He delivered a presentation to the class and answered all their questions, sparking their enthusiasm about the engineering profession. Some of the jobs he had worked on involved harvesting rainwater so The Water Squad members in 4th class were particularly interested to hear about these jobs. Another job he worked on was the controversial Corrib gas line. The children really enjoyed this visit and it created a positive awareness among them about the possibilities of engineering.
Thank you to Johnny for taking the time to come and speak to us.
