This week, our Thursday Station Teaching consisted of fun activities and games based on Fractions.
Thank you to Mr. Littleton, Miss O'Shea, Pauline and Caroline who joined us to help out, enabling us to have five different stations. The children played Fractions Balloon Pop on the IWB and this involved popping the balloons in order from the smallest fraction to the largest fraction. They also played Fraction War. In this game, students compared their fraction cards. The player with the highest fraction got to keep his/her card and that of his/her opponent’s. The aim of the game is to see who collects the most fractions. The next game was Shake It. The children had to shake coloured counters out onto the table and represent each colour as a fraction of the whole number. The children did Fraction Worksheets at one of the stations where they had to find the fraction of a number. The final station was Fraction Fun. Children made fractions using playing cards. They compared their fractions with that of their partners and discussed which was higher/lower. They tried to make the biggest/smallest fraction that they possibly could using their cards and as an extension activity with 4th class, we formed equivalent fractions. Comments are closed.
