The next genre of writing that we have been focusing on is the Narrative genre. Narrative writing tells a story. It can be real or make believe. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. It features characters, settings and a plot and it is usually told in sequential order. The children were busy all month writing their own books for the Write-a-Book competition. We also set up stations in 3rd and 4th Class based around the theme of narrative writing. The stations were as follows:
Characters Station - The children had a variety of characters to choose from. They then had to describe these characters in terms of their physical appearance and their personality traits. Settings Station - The children choose one or two settings and wrote about them, setting the scene for their stories. Cartoon Strips Station - The children wrote a short story in the form of a cartoon strip. Reading Station - The children read short stories. Quiz Station - The children answered questions from a Quiz booklet based on their novel Wildflower Girl. Storybird Station - The children used the artful storytelling website storybird.com to create short stories based on a picture of their choice. Comments are closed.
