After weeks of counting down days, the junior and senior infant children finally got to climb the steps of their tour bus on Wednesday 8th June - the destination, Moher Hill Farm! Thankfully, the weather couldn't have been better for us - the sun came out around 11am and the children, dressed in sunhats and t-shirts were able to enjoy the farm and all of its attractions. Claire Baker from O'Callaghan's Mills was our bus driver for the day and after a lovely bus trip down to Liscannor, with only a small number of 'are we there yet?(s)', we dismounted the bus at Moher Hill Farm. After a quick snack, a long drink and a trip to the loo for all the infants, we began our tour. Firstly, the children had fun in the play area - complete with bouncy castle and slide. Then Martin met us, provided us all with our bags of animal food and we took off for a lovely, leisurely walk around the farm. We saw goats, lambs, geese, ducks, pot-bellied pigs, llamas, an alpaca, a reindeer (we're not sure if it was Rudolph!), an emu, an ostrich, a peacock ............... the list goes on and on! Martin explained to us which animals were safe to feed - who knew pot-bellied pigs have teeth sharp enough to bite off your finger?!! Some of us adults had the pleasure (??!!) of feeding Ossie - the ostrich - not for the faint-hearted! All of the children took turns in holding the bunny rabbits, guinea pigs and we fed a baby goat with a full bottle of milk. Martin had wonderful information about the animals - where they came from etc. and he also had stories of fairies dancing under the fairy tree on the farm! After our lovely walk, we returned to the lunchroom with healthy appetities for lunch and there was just enough time for a little play in the playground and sand-pit before we needed to get ready to hop back on the bus for our journey home. There were some very tired little children on the bus when we arrived back in Kilkishen at 3.30pm - I'm sure I heard snoring coming from the middle of the bus! How anyone slept through the wonderful renditions of the National Anthem that was on replay for most of the trip home, I'll never know!! The following day, the infant class were all in agreement - Moher Hill Farm is a wonderful place to go on a School Tour!! Comments are closed.
