Debate adjudicator, Jody O'Connor was very complimentary to both teams and sided with Kilkishen based on their excellent performances. Best of luck in the quarter finals coming up in February. The following students were selected by their class teachers for exceptional effort as the "Stars of the Week" last week. Each pupil tried their best, showed respect and completed their homework each day. Congratulations to all pupils that managed to be in the running for the awards in each class. Keep up the good work and watch out for this week's winners! During the past week fresh fruit and veg has been devoured by the students of Kilkishen N.S. The children have really bought into the idea of healthy eating and the benefits for their health. As is tradition in my classroom the boys and girls of 2nd and 3rd class celebrated Australia Day. We visited famous Australian landmarks on Google Earth. The students also learned about ''Dreamtime'' and the historical significance of Aboriginal art.
The Junior & Senior Infants had great fun on Thursday this week exploring 'energy & forces' in science class. They were asked to predict, explore and evaluate how they could successfully create a boat that would hold our play-doh Gingerbread Man and would not sink!! They had a whole lot of fun, as you can imagine, working together to succeed in their mission! They successfully managed to create tinfoil boats that were designed to hold Mr. Gingerbread Man. One boat was so well created that it held 34 cubes before it sank! Huge thanks to Bridget and Ann who came to our class and helped us to have so much fun while learning lots about how forces act on objects.

On the day, Áine Moroney, Katie McMahon, Éimear Cassidy, Claire Shanahan, Aimee Cleary, Zara Kearse and Kara Flynn excelled for Kilkishen . This programme promotes the importance for children to eat healthy foods. These special deliveries will continue for the next two weeks, which will give the children the chance to sample new and exotic types of fruit and vegetables. The intended end result is for the children to develop a healthy diet which will stay with them into the future. The Brexit debate is high on the agenda this week and it must have rubbed off on the students of 2nd and 3rd class. The students debated topics such as ''Should homework be banned'' and ''Should primary school children have access to social media'' The debates were fantastic and we could have a few future TD's in our midst.
Congratulations to Kilkishen N.S. sixth class pupils, Aoife and Lilly, who were crowned U/13 and U/12 girls singles handball "A" champions at the weekend. Kilkishen Abú!
