1st and 2nd Class enjoyed engaging in lots of activities for Active Schools Week this week. Among the highlights were doing the Bog Walk, visiting the playground and participating in Athletics Stations and Parachute games. The excitement in 2nd and 3rd class was palpable today as we reached our first stop on our journey to Tokyo. We arrived in Athens and we learned all about the historic city and the first Olympic games. At each stop on our journey we are assigned an activity. Todays activity entailed designing a poster and uniform for the Irish Olympic team 2021. The children achieved this milestone by logging the activity they have done throughout active week and also at home. Activities such as running, walking, soccer, gardening and even farming have been logged. 2nd and 3rd class really do epitomise the Olympic motto of ''Faster, Higher, Stronger'' Pupils from First to Sixth class are using the Accelerated Reader program this term. Accelerated Reader uses online quizzes to test pupils comprehension having completed a book. The program records the books, words and daily minutes pupils have engaged with reading. All pupils are working towards achieving individual and class reading targets. Have a look at some of the incredible readers this week. This week we have a number of students that have become reading Millionaires! Congratulations to Lilly and Dan on this great achievement. Congratulations to pupils that were selected as Stars of the Week in Ms. MacLean's, Mr. Walsh's and Ms. Fawl's classrooms. Pupils that demonstrated some outstanding work, effort or kindness during the week were selected by their teachers. Every Monday a new set of Stars of the Week are chosen. Keep up the great work everyone and best of luck for the week ahead. The students of 2nd and 3rd class have dreams of reaching the Olympics this year. With every session of physical exercise they partake in, this dream gets closer and closer. The class have signed up to the dare to believe programme. This programme aims to highlight the importance of physical activity in primary schools. Every activity that the class completes can be logged and brings the class a km closer to Tokyo. The class will stop in Athens, New Dehli, Fukuroi before they reach their final destination Tokyo.
2nd and 3rd class enjoyed our bog walk in the sun today. This week is active week and the class is very excited.
All pupils will be partaking in Active Schools Week running from April 26-30. Pupils will be involved in physical activity throughout the week and will experience hurling, soccer, basketball, rugby as well as walking the local bog walk during the week. Classes will partake in a daily mile challenge along with enjoying various PE lessons during the day. Younger classes will visit our local playground throughout the week. 1st and 2nd Class marked Earth Day yesterday by participating in a collaborative art project. The children made a poster that highlights the need to 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' to care for the Earth. The children engaged in writing and drawing tasks to describe ways in which we can 'Heal the Earth'. The boys and girls also embraced the opportunity of working together in their groups to design and create their very own 3D-Shaped Robots out of recyclable materials.
