Pupils from 5th and 6th classes performed "Away With The Manger" a Christmas nativity comedy at Kilkishen Cultural Centre on Tuesday evening last. The play tells the story of two jewel thieves that carryout a robbery and hide their takings in a Christmas manger. Thankfully a "clueless" detective is on the case to help solve the mystery of the stolen jewels. The audience present on the night were entertained with great performances, singing and a fun take on the Christmas nativity. Thank you to everyone involved and those that attended on the night. The boys and girls put on a superb performance and displayed their talents for all in attendance. Well done to all involved with preparing the pupils and to everyone that attended the performance. The class made nativity cribs using egg cartons, straw, paint and the children had fun with clay modelling to produce clay figures to insert into their handmade cribs. The children then learned the procedure of how to wrap their present or gift for that someone special! 3rd and 4th Class, Miss Fawl, Pauline and Caroline are feeling very festive thanks to the fantastic artistic talents of Miss McLean. The children were thrilled to have the opportunity to paint the Christmas scenes that she drew on our classroom windows. We love the finished displays and we bet you do too! Congratulations to the top scorers in the 3rd and 4th Class Ballard and Westwood timed tables tests. The children were given 30 seconds, each time, to answer as many addition, subtraction, multiplication and division sums as they possibly could. The results were excellent. Well done to all.
With the holidays coming up this weeks healthy recipe has a festive feel to it. Enjoy!!!! Maple-Roasted Sweet Potatoes Ingredients 1 serving 2½ pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1½-inch pieces (about 8 cups)⅓ cup pure maple syrup 2 tablespoons butter, melted 1 tablespoon lemon juice½ teaspoon salt. Freshly ground pepper, to taste. Ready In 1 h 10 m Preheat oven to 400°F. Arrange sweet potatoes in an even layer in a 9-by-13-inch glass baking dish. Combine maple syrup, butter, lemon juice, salt and pepper in small bowl. Pour the mixture over the sweet potatoes; toss to coat. Cover and bake the sweet potatoes for 15 minutes. Uncover, stir and cook, stirring every 15 minutes, until tender and starting to brown, 45 to 50 minutes more. Make Ahead Tip: Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 day. Just before serving, reheat at 350°F until hot, about 15 minutes. The pupils of 1st and 2nd class have been busy making pasta candel holders for Christmas. Hopefully they will hold on to these beautiful decorations long into the future.
The students of Kilkishen N.S. have been very busy during lunch times since Halloween playing in our active soccer league. The interest and participation from the students has been fantastic and a credit to the students that they took control of officiating some of the games. Members of the schools active school committee took control of the organisation of the league. The league has generated so much interest from the students that it will undoubtedly continue after Christmas. A huge crowd turned out for the Kilkishen Christmas Market on Sunday Dec. 11. The market included the sale of Arts and Crafts made by the pupils of Kilkishen N.S., a Kids Zone tent with Face Painting, Hair Braiding and Christmas Art Activities, a Mobile Pet Farm and Homemade Cake Sale. The event was a great success and very enjoyable family day out. Thank you to all that put a huge effort into organizing and preparing the Cultural Centre for the event. Kilkishen Christmas Market had a very special visitor on Sunday last. Santa and Mrs. Claus posed for photos with many boys and girls in a specially made Christmas Grotto. Santa was helped out by members of the Parents Asscociation Committee and Kilkishen Development Committee. This week's "Pupils of the Week" were selected from pupils that earned a star on their Principal Star Chart in all classes. Pupils that tried their best, completed their homework and showed respect this week earned a chance to win "Pupil of The Week". Congratulations to all our winners and all pupils that have earned 12 stars on their reward charts. Best of luck to everyone again next week. The boys and girls in 1st and 2nd class got a huge surprise this morning when they arrived for school. Christmas fairies and elves had left a Christmas tree in their classroom because they observed all their good work throughout the term. They left a beautiful letter telling the children to decorote the tree with the wonderful decorations they made in art class. The children were so excited and are now looking forward to a visit from the main man himself SANTA CLAUS. Kilkishen N.S. Parents Association are hosting a Christmas Gamble, 45 Card Drive in aid of the school's building project on Thursday 15th December 2016 at 8.30 pm. in Gleesons Bar, Kilkishen. Tickets cost €5. If you would like to support this fundraiser but are unable to attend you can purchase a ticket and return to the school with your contact details on the back and this will be included in a draw on the night. Well done to Kilkishen N.S. pupils that represented Clare in the u/11 and u/13 Munster Schools Handball competition in Ballydesmond last Sunday. Darragh and Oisín won silver medals with victory over Tipperary and narrow defeat to Cork. Well done to all involved. Kilkishen N.S. were represented at the regional Intel mini-scientist exhibition on Tuesday Dec 6 at Intel offices in Shannon. The project "Will the Egg Crack?" was very well presented by group members Darragh, Chelsea, Adrian and Aidan. Congratulations to the group and the judges were very impressed with the pupils. Children in Seniors/First/Second were busy painting the school windows today in preparation for the Festive Season! |
