Another letter response arrived for a pupil in 4th Class this week all the way from Canada! Noah was thrilled to receive a letter from the one and only Chris Hadfield!!! Included in the letter was a signed photograph with the very special message: 'Dear Noah, Pursue Your Dreams'. We are all so impressed that Chris Hadfield took the time to respond with this touching personal message. He obviously knows how lucky he is to have such a wonderful 'Super Fan' in Noah.
The children in Junior and Senior Infants had the pleasure of Ms. Whitney teaching them over the past few weeks. How lucky the children were to learn and have fun under her training and care! Ms. Whitney spoiled the class with such enjoyable, engaging and inspiring lessons that they will never forget! I know Ms. Whitney enjoyed her teaching experience as much as the children loved their learning experience!
The boys and girls made some art and a 'Thank You' card for Ms. Whitney and presented her with a chocolate treat last Friday as her teaching placement sadly came to an end. In 4th and 5th Class we are celebrating children's hard work and also inspiring greater efforts by displaying 'The Perfect Page' in our classroom. Sophie and Ruairí were chosen this month for their fantastic work. As you can see, their copies are laid out beautifully. Different children will be chosen in the coming months. Everybody is now pulling out all the stops to impress and get their page on the Wall of Fame!
There was great excitement in 4th and 5th Class when some of the pupils received responses to their letters. Chloe was overjoyed to get a thank you letter from international author JK Rowling. Aoibheann was delighted to get not only a thank you card but a CD from her favourite country and western singer Clodagh Lawlor. Danielle and Leah loved their letters from Danielle's sister, provincial rugby player Clodagh O'Halloran. Molly and Rachel sent letters to each other and were excited to receive their responses in the post. We are hoping more will arrive soon. Last week 4th and 5th Class celebrated Science week by learning about the lungs and by making models to demonstrate how the lungs work.

Junior and Senior Infants participated in various science activities for science week. They carried out the 'gummy bear' experiment and the 'birdie in a cage' experiment. The children loved working in groups to test whether different items would sink or float. The children practised the scientific skills of predicting, investigating, observing, recording and communicating in the process. After all the experimenting, the groups participated in a water relay! Check out the fun and games! 1st & 2nd are having great fun carrying out experiments in class this week. We made paper boats and learned all about how boats float. We tested all of our boats and each one floated! Some were even able to carry a heavy load!! The boys and girls in 2nd and 3rd class have started Science Week 2021 with a bang. The class has signed up to a series of webinars held by Midlands Science Festival highlighting the importance of Science in our society. Todays webinar was based on Dinosaurs and fossils. Other topics that we will be covering this week will be rockets, reptiles, superheroes, planets and the human body. This week will be an interesting one.
First and second class examined and compared different materials to make their very own parachutes. They predicted which materials would work best and tested each parachute. For the latest news and updates from Kilkishen N.S., please read the November newsletter edition. |
