Keep up the great work everyone and best of luck for the week ahead. The boys and girls in 1st and 2nd class have made a Garden of Remembrance to include in our Sacred Space. We remember all of those who have gone before us in our prayers for the month of November.
The class were learning about Saint Thérese's 'little way' and made drawings about how they do little things with great love. 5th & 6th class children had lots of fun making their own kazoos/ harmonicas using lollipop sticks, elastic bands and straws this week. There were some funny sounds coming from the classroom when we tried them out! The students in 5th & 6th class were challenged to design a wind turbine capable of rotating and lifting a paper cup. Each child had to come up with their own design and create a way to make the blades turn powered by the wind (we used a hairdryer to test our windmills in the classroom). Everyone created fantastic constructions which you can see below.
During Science week, Dylan O'Brien gave a presentation on his experience of working on the WeDo 2.0 Lego programme. Dylan shared his insights into building and creating a number of WeDo 2.0 Lego projects which he carried out with the help of Ms. Clancy. The programme involves the development of problem solving and coding skills through the construction of various creations using LEGO construction sets. Thank you to Dylan and Ms. Clancy for sharing these exciting projects. Congratulations to pupils that were selected as Stars of the Week in Ms. MacLean's, Mr. Walsh's and Ms. Fawl's classrooms. We also had a science Table Quiz on Wednesday which the children really enjoyed too! In maths, children are learning about Data. We collected data from the class about our favourite day of the week and represented the data in the form of a pictograph. Check out the results below! As part of Science Week, Luca researched and carried out an excellent experiment. He demonstrated the 'Soap and Pepper' experiment for the class, highlighting how important it is to use soap when washing your hands. Luca reminded us how we can help stop the spread of germs by washing our hands properly.

The campaign looks to support families in choosing healthy active lifestyles with Ciarán Kilkenny setting a fun challenge for children to undertake with their family members. Throughout the month of November, Ciarán will release three different skills videos, which will show children how to improve their parents’ or other family members’ sporting abilities. As well as skills, Ciarán will be on the look out for effort and enthusiasm from each family, with the winning child receiving a training session for their class with Ciarán Kilkenny, while runners up, as selected by Ciarán, will receive sporting goods vouchers for their school courtesy of SPAR. Details of the challenges, which can be completed in a garden or any compact outdoor area with minimal equipment, along with how to enter this competition can be found on their website: https://www.spar.ie/sparskills/ Kilkishen National School officially received the Green Flag for travel today. The ceremony was different as it was held interactively. However the children were delighted to hear the school's name amongst the 250 nationwide winners. Again the children worked very hard along with Mike to obtain this award. I wish the Green School's committee well going into the future.
The children in 4th and 5th Class were extremely interested in keeping a close eye on the American Presidential Election last week. The election inspired our Donald Trump Directed Drawing lesson. Take a look at the children's artistic work below. Uncanny resememblances can be seen!
5th & 6th class pupils were busy today exploring different elements of science to celebrate science week. The children became engineers over the past couple of weeks as they planned, designed and constructed their own mobile phone stands to present to the class. Today the children presented their work and we tested each one. Everyone did a super job and we may have some future engineers here in Kilkishen! We had three overall prize winners, congratulations to Charleigh, Luke and Declan. |
