To prepare for the judges' visit, the children in 4th and 5th Class showcased their Mini-Scientist projects to Mr. Walsh's class yesterday. They are now looking forward to the big day! The judges will arrive on Wednesday 8th of November. All of the groups have worked so hard and it will be a chance for them to show off their amazing work. Well done everybody. 4th and 5th Class#SomeoneLikeMe is an Art Competition which promotes disability awareness among primary school pupils. Through a range of resources and activities, this competition enables pupils to understand that even though we might have different abilities, we’re all pretty similar. The 4th and 5th class pupils expressed what they learned through the medium of art by creating an individual art piece. #SomeoneLikeMe is not only an Art Competition, it is a powerful platform that promotes disability awareness among young minds at primary level. This competition aims to open their eyes to see beyond the surface and realise our similarities and unique differences. It serves as a tool for children to learn and engage in heartfelt conversations, sparking curiosity and empathy. I was blown away by the children's beautiful posters and the conversations we had. They can be very proud of the beautiful, respectful, inclusive attitudes that they all have. Check out their entries below. Last week we were celebrating Maths Week in 4th and 5th Class by playing Maths Games such as 'Last One Standing - Tables Champion' and 'Xs and Os' involving subtraction and division. We also did Multiplication Stations which included the following:
Pupils from Second to Fifth Classes travelled to Ennis on Wednesday October 25 and experienced two historical activities. Firstly, pupils learned about the history of Halloween and Halloween folklore relating to County Clare with a workshop given by storyteller Ruth Marshall at Clare Museum. Pupils then learned about the history of Ennis town and the oldest building in the town, the Ennis Franciscan Abbey. Thank you to Clare County Council and the OPW for coordinating both activities. Highlights from the trip can be viewed below. Réaltaí Reatha and Réaltaí Óga attended their second session of Gymnastics at the Ennis Gymnastics Club yesterday. They had a fantastic time using all the equipment. Take a look below at what they got up to! Congratulations to our Pupil of the Week award winners. Thank you to everyone that turned out for the final day of Walk to School Week 2023. 69 pupils braved the wet morning and turned out to join the walking bus from Kilkishen G.A.A. Clubhouse. The children in 4th and 5th Class joined an exciting zoom session today for some Tree Day Celebrations!
This webinar was run by GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) with two special guests, Mary Reynolds and Brian Campbell. Mary Reynolds is an internationally acclaimed landscape designer. She shared with us a message of hope and highlighted how we can help biodiversity. Brian Campbell is an educator with NASA. He shared how NASA scientists study trees and how our observations can help them. He also shared some practical tips for the budding scientists and curious minds in our classroom! There was a question and answer session at the end which we were delighted to be chosen for. Well done to Alan, Aoibhínn, Alex and Aaron who asked some wonderful questions. Over the past couple of weeks, the children in 4th and 5th Class created amazing Rugby World Cup Projects. We used a Random Wheel Spinner to select our teams and then the children carried out online research about that country. They used Google Slides to present their findings and they also designed their own Kahoot Quiz to test their classmates' knowledge at the end of their presentations. We are keeping a close eye on all the rugby matches and Alan is recording the results for us. The child who selected the winning team at random will receive a prize at the end of the World Cup. Work continues on the extension to the Astro Turf and Ball Wall facility which commenced in early September. To complete the project we are seeking financial support with the aim of completing the project debt free. We received an incredible donation of €5000 from Ei Electronics in Shannon which is a fantastic start to our fundraiser campaign. An online donation fundraiser launches today, which will allow those that wish to donate to support our fundraising campaign. Please consider donating and share the fundraising link with anyone you think may wish to support. Thank you in advance and we look forward to sharing the completed facility with the entire community and enjoying it for decades to come. To donate go to https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/astroturkkilkishenNS or scan the following QR code. Donations may also be sent to the office at Kilkishen N.S. Every donation is greatly appreciated and will help us to reach our goal. For all the latest news and updates from Kilkishen N.S., please read the October edition of our school newsletter. |
