A very big thank you and congratulations to everyone involved in this years communion at Kilkishen on Saturday. The ceremony went superbly and the pupils and choir were a credit to the school. A special thank you to Kelly and Fiona and Edel for sharing their talents with the choir, to Antoinette for all her work with second class, to Kevin Donovon for taking photographs and Mr. Walsh for coordinating the special day. Well done to all involved.
The school camogie team have qualified for the Cumann na mBunscol division 1 semi-finals having recorded victories over Clarecastle N.S., Ennis C.B.S. and Quin N.S. The team are now drawn to face Clonlara N.S. for a place in the county schools final to take place in Cusack Park on June 13. We wish the girls the very best in the semi-final and hopefully they can continue the great run they are on. Well done to all involved.
Congratulations to all the pupils and staff in Kilkishen N.S. and in particular to the Green Schools Committee, for receiving a third Green Flag for our school. The committee worked tirelessly over the past two years on the theme of Water and yesterday this hard work was rewarded at an awards ceremony in the Galway Bay Hotel. Eighteen ceremonies were held in eight different locations around Ireland yesterday with over 4,000 attendees. We are very proud to have been a part of that and we really enjoyed the day out. Finn Bliss and Keelin Moroney accompanied myself and Ms O'Shea to accept the flag on behalf of the school. These two children are valued members of our Green Schools Committee and without their hard work and dedication we would not have been as successful in last year's One Good Idea Project. We will raise our Green Flag as part of our Sports Day in June and this is sure to be another very proud moment.
Congratulations to all pupils that received a Gold Star last week for doing their best, showing respect and completing their homework. Stars of the Week were chosen by class teachers for pupils that made special efforts this week. Well done everyone and best of luck again this week!
After an opening round defeat to Gaelscoil Ennis in the Division 1 Cumann na mBunscol primary school camogie competition, the Kilkishen girls have recorded great victories against Clarecastle N.S. and Ennis CBS. The girls now face a decisive game against Quin N.S. to progress to the semi-final stages. Well done to the girls so far and we wish them all the best in their next game. On Friday, the children from Juniors and Seniors enjoyed their trip to Glór to see 'Star Chasers' followed by a picnic lunch, playground and track games in Lees Road. Oh what fun! The girls lost out to Ogonnelloe N.S. 1-0, drew with Stonehall N.S.3-3 and beat Connolly N.S. 5-0 in the 5-a-side soccer Tournament in Lees Road today. Despite playing super soccer and scoring great goals, they were unfortunate not to qualify to the next round. Well done to this team who showed great sportsmanship and character throughout the soccer tournament!
Guest speaker Johnny Whelan of BAM Civil Engineering visited pupils in 5th and 6th class on Friday last as part of Engineers Week 2018. The event celebrates engineering across Ireland highlighting different work carried out by the engineering profession. Johnny informed the pupils of various projects he has worked on and his current project working on the new children's hospital in Dublin. Pupils enjoyed learning about different engineering professions. Thank you to Johnny for his inspiring talk. |
