Congratulations to our Student of the Week award winners in Ms. McNamara's, Mr. Walsh's and Ms. Fawl's classrooms. Pupils are selected for Trying Their Best, Showing Respect and Completing Their School and Homework. Each student receives a Student of the Week certificate and has their photograph published on the school website. Well done to all and best of luck everyone to be chosen as next week's winners For the latest news and updates from Kilkishen N.S., please read the June edition of our school newsletter. The Green Schools Committee were excited to recently receive the nitrogen dioxide results from the spring Globe Air Quality Campaign. We were eager to see what the air quality around our school and our community was like and whether or not it was under the level recommended by the World Health Organisation.
According to WHO, levels should be below 10. We set up air quality tubes outside the front of the school, at the back of the school and at Cullaun Lake. The results were as follows: NO2 Result 1 - 4.49 NO2 Result 2 - 3.32 NO2 Result 3 - 3.88 This is good news for us! We can now be rest assured that the air we are breathing in daily is of good quality and poses no health risks. Well done to all and best of luck everyone to be chosen as next week's winners Stephen Kenny, Ireland soccer manager, presented our girls soccer team with their SPAR5s medals at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday last. A fantastic occasion and delighted to be part of the national finals day. The SPAR FAI Primary School 5s, is a fun five-a-side programme that caters for boys and girls in 4th, 5th and 6th class. This year saw a record 1,081 schools take part with 56,212 students involved. Pupils in 2nd and 3rd class once again demonstrated their unlimited abilities by designing and constructing a maze as part of their STEM projects. The children showed their love of working in groups and problem solving. A very positive lesson for the students this afternoon.
Third class pupil Lily Grant has recently donated to the Rapunzel Foundation Ponytail campaign. This act of kindness will help make much needed wigs to improve the lives of those living with the hair loss. Everyone at Kilkishen N.S. is very proud of Lily's generous act and her support of this very worthwhile charity. Congratulations to Lily!
Kilkishen girls took part in the National Finals of the FAI Schools 5-a-side tournament at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday May 17. The girls were representing Clare and Munster schools and competed with all 3 other provinces. The girls performed exceptionally well, winning all three games. The girls were presented with medals from Ireland soccer manager Stephen Kenny and got to meet Ireland players Louise Quinn and David Meyler. Pupils from 4th to 6th classes travelled to the Aviva wearing their school colours, waving flags and banners supporting the team. A fantastic day that will provide lifelong memories for everyone in attendance. Well done girls! We are delighted to have completed our school collection poster for the SuperValu Save the Bees competition. Thank you to everyone who helped us to achieve this. A special mention to Ned and Kiyera who brought in over 60 Save the Bees cards yesterday resulting in us reaching our target just in the nick of time!
We are now in the draw to win a share of €50,000 for our school. Kilkishen Girls will take part in the National 5 a-side finals on Tuesday May 17 next. The girls will take part in the Girls 'A' Schools Cup in the following group. Best of luck to the girls taking part.

We hope to see you all on Friday! Congratulations to the boys and girls in Second classes on making their First Holy Communion on Saturday May 7. Thank you to Ms. Amy McNamara, Mr. Walsh and Caroline Madden for preparing the pupils and the Parents Association Committee for organising a reception for pupils, families and friends back at Kilkishen N.S. Thank you also to Fr. Donal Dwyer for celebrating the mass. Well done to everybody and making the day a very special occasion for all involved. We are very proud of Clodagh, who recently did incredibly well at the Clare Athletics Association competitions.
Clodagh won 4 golds in the U13 100m Sprint, U13 Shot Putt, U13 Javelin and U13 Long Jump. She also won a silver medal in the U13 High Jump. What a fantastic achievement! We are delighted with the number of Save the Bees cards we have collected so far. Thank you so much.
The competition end date is 12th May 2022 so please help us to fill our school collection board by continuing to ask for Save the Bees cards every time you spend €30 or more in Supervalu. Your help is greatly appreciated. Kilkishen N.S. was delighted to be invited to work with the Tidy Towns this week. Louise Vaughan, who is on the Tidy Towns committee, visited us yesterday morning and helped the children in 4th and 5th Class to plant sunflowers. As sunflowers are the national flower in the Ukraine, they are going to be replanted in Plunkett Drive to show our solidarity with the Ukraine. This activity was made extra special by the involvement of the newest addition to our school family, a child from the Ukraine who has moved here. We welcome him and his family to our school and to our village with open arms. Juniors and seniors had fun making a friendship web for Friendship Week! Each child had to hold a piece of the wool and finish the sentence…’A good friend is…..’, then throw the ball of wool to another child until everybody had a turn of explaining what a good friend is! What brilliant answers the children shared. Each child received a certificate for random acts of kindness during Friendship week. Well done boys and girls!
