12 boys from 5th and 6th class took part in the Marion Keane Basketball blitz held at Gurteen Sports Hall on Wednesday February 26. Kilkishen boys took on Tulla, Kilmurry and Bridgetown on the day. There were some fantastic performers in all 3 games with Kilmurry emerging as group winners. Congratulations to everyone that took part and represented Kilkishen N.S. so well. The students of 2nd and 3rd class have been learning about the effects of severe weather on the world around us. We decided to work together in groups and research the links between extreme weather and climate change. The children really enjoyed this project work and hope to examine different topics throughout the term. The boys and girls in first and second class went on a trip to the Clare Museum in Ennis for a Saint Brigid's Day workshop at the beginning of the month. Here the children learned how to make Saint Brigid's Crosses using rushes. In school, the children listened to the story of Saint Valentine. Then they created Valentine's poems and made Valentine's Day Cards. The class also learned about the artist Wassily Kandinksy and painted hearts instead of his 'circles' to fit in with the theme of Valentine's day. On Friday February 14 6th class pupils from Kilkishen and O'Callaghan's Mills celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation at O'Callaghan's Mills church. Bishop Fintan Monaghan celebrated the mass along with Fr. Donal Dwyer. Images from the day were capture bu Kevin Donovon which are available to enjoy below. Congratulations to all the boys and girls. Kilkishen 3rd & 4th class boys competed in the Cumann na mBunscol indoor hurling tournament on Thursday February 6 at Cratloe G.A.A. hall. The boys played three great games, with a win over Kilmurry and were narrowly defeated by Sixmilebridge. Cratloe emerged group winners and progress to the next phase. The boys can be very very proud of their efforts and had some great performers on the day. Well done to all involved. The students of 2nd and 3rd class finished the 12th and final chapter of the novel Alice in Wonderland. To celebrate the students dressed up as different characters from the famous Lewis Carroll story. The children really enjoyed the story and we look forward to reading more classic children's stories next term. 6th class pupils from Kilkishen and O'Callaghan's Mills N.S. welcome Bishop Fintan Monaghan to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation on Friday February 14 at 3 pm. Preparations for the day continue this week and pupils are looking forward to their special day. Kilkishen 4th and 5th class girls competed in the Cumann na mBunscol indoor camogie tournament on Wednesday February 5 at Cratloe G.A.A. hall. The girls were grouped with Kilmurry, Sixmilebridge, Cratloe and O'Callaghans Mills. The girls competed very well in what was a very evenly contested blitz. At the end Cratloe emerged group winners and progress to the next phase. Kilkishen girls can very very proud of their efforts and had some great performers on the day. Well done to all involved. Our "Play Rugby" kits arrived which will be enjoyed by all classes. The kits include rugby balls, bibs, cones, ladders, belts and tags. Thanks to everyone that helped fill our play rugby posters. On Friday the final of the Junior Hurling League between Tipperary and Wexford took place. The boys and girls from Junior, Seniors and First classes showcased their skills for the whole school. After a very entertaining and competitive match Tipperary emerged victorious at the final whistle. There were "Stars of the Future" competing on both sides without question. Congratulations to all the teams that took part. The following students were selected by their class teachers for exceptional effort as the "Stars of the Week" last week. Each pupil tried their best, showed respect and completed their homework each day. Congratulations to all pupils that managed to be in the running for the awards in each class.
