The students of Kilkishen N.S. got into the Halloween spirit by dressing up and going on a scary adventure. The whole school walked the spooky bog walk and through the village. There was great excitement and sense of fun throughout the school for this ''scary'' day.
The boys and girls in 2nd and 3rd would like to congratulate Clodagh O'Hagan on her success at the recent Community Games presentation night at the West County Hotel. Clodagh is a fantastic athlete with a bright future.
The students of 2nd and 3rd class enjoyed a nature walk this week. We have been learning about the signs of Autumn and there is no better way to experience this first hand than visiting the bog walk. The students searched for different leaves and also other signs that Autumn is in the air. The children were able to name the leaves and animals we find in the woods as Gaeilge.
Kilkishen N.S. took part in a Girls Gaelic football blitz today in Gurteen. The girls won two matches and drew one. Despite a gallant effort the girls narrowly missed out on a place in the semi final. To say the trainers are proud of these magnificent girls would be an understatement. The girls represented the school with pride and passion and undeniable skill and composure. The following students were selected by their class teachers for exceptional effort as the "Stars of the Week" last week. Each pupil tried their best, showed respect and completed their homework each day. Congratulations to all pupils that managed to be in the running for the awards in each class. Keep up the good work and watch out for this week's winners! The children of 2nd and 3rd class celebrated World Animal Day this week. We discussed the importance of treating animals with kindness and respect. The class learned about a lot of different animals from different continents. The class also made a pledge which promised that each student would care for and respect their pets.
The boys and girls played really well against St.Conaires and Newmarket today in Shannon. It was great to see the team comraderie and the boys and girls participating and performing with pride in the Kilkishen Jersey!! 5th and 6th class pupils worked on creative writing pieces and paintings based on the novel "Safe Harbour" depicting life during The Blitz in London in 1940. The pupils wrote imaginative pieces describing what life was like for young children that were evacuated from the city. In Visual Art class the pupils created silhouettes of the city and air strikes during the bombing. Have a look at the classroom display below.
