The Kilkishen boys for the first time ever qualified for the second phase of the Marion Keane Memorial primary schools basketball tournament this year. Having finished as group winners in the preliminary phase Kilkishen now took on Mountshannon and Gaelscoil Shannon at Shannon leisure centre on Tuesday March 26. The boys had a marvelous opening victory against Mounshannon winning on a scoreline of 8 points to 2. In the deciding fixture a very strong Shannon side proved too strong for the boys to progress. The boys can be very proud of their efforts and progressing to the later stages of the competition. Thank you to Richard Greaves and Martina O'Hagan for all their work over the years promoting basketball. Well done to the boys involved. By exchanging photos and videos of both classes, the children got a special opportunity to learn about the school culture in each others' native country. The whole school gathered today to watch the sharing of language, art, music, dance, sports and rituals associated with school life. A huge thank you to Ms Fawl for inviting us to participate in this wonderful project. We really enjoyed it! The students of 2nd class had their sacrament of reconciliation on Thursday the 14th. There were amazing costumes on display with a huge variety of costumes and characters chosen. All pupils will have received a World Book Day voucher enabling pupils to purchase a book during March with €1.50 off the marked price. 5th and 6th class pupils finished the novel "Wonder" by R.J. Well done to all that took part. The Rapunzel Foundation is a charitable organisation that works to improve the lives of those living with hair loss through fund-raising as well as through hair-raising. Hair is raised through the Rapunzel Foundation’s Ponytail Campaign, where people commit to growing their hair with the view to their hair being sent to help make much needed wigs to improve the lives of those living with the hair loss. Charleigh, Molly and their mother Edel were very kind to donate their ponytails to this very worthy cause. The girls are great examples of the J.M. Barrie quote "Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle".
