Each week pupils are asked to remember 3 important rules: 1. Show Respect 2. Do Your Best and 3. Complete Homework. In each classroom pupils that manage to demonstrate these on a daily basis are in the running for special weekly awards announced every Monday. Well done to all our award winners this week. Best of luck next week. The Junior and Senior Infants have enjoyed exploring the Aistear Theme The Birthday Party this month. Take a peek at the children participating in various activities associated the theme. Our school Cross Country athletics trials were held on Monday September 26. Boys and girls from 1st to 6th classes took part in u/8, u/10 and o/10 age categories. The first 6 pupils in each age category now qualify for the East Clare Primary Schools competition which will be held at Lee's Road in Ennis on Thursday October 6. Best of luck to our Cross Country running teams. For the latest news and updates from Kilkishen N.S., please read the September edition of our school newsletter. Best of luck next week. 4th and 5th Class are learning all about Japan this month. We will focus on a different country from each of the 7 continents throughout the year. The children have enjoyed many different lessons which have been integrated across subject areas such as Geography, History and Art. Take a look at the Origami bunnies which they made. They also did beautiful paintings of a Panda as they are native to Asia. There certainly are many budding artists in this classroom. The children in 4th and 5th Class really enjoyed this Geography lesson. We began by studying an aerial photograph of Killaloe. The children pointed out all the landmarks that could be seen. Then they worked in groups to create a table top 'messy map' using anything they wanted from the classroom. It was amazing to see the results and to hear each group explain why they choose the materials that they did. I was very impressed with their teamwork. Our newly elected Students Council held their first meeting on Monday the 12th of September. This year's elected students council includes: Jane Hogan, Evan Casey and Alex Davey 5th &6th class, Ronan Davey, Lauren McInerney and Noah O'Holleran 4th and 5th class, Gearóid MacDonnchadh, Rachel McMahon and Alex McMahon 3rd class. The council have discussed a number of ideas they wish to work on this year and will get down to working on these issues before our next monthly meeting. Best of luck to all involved.
