For all the latest news and updates from Kilkishen N.S., please read the February edition of our school newsletter. Congratulations to our Pupil of the Week award winners. Each week pupils are asked to remember 3 important rules: 1. Show Respect 2. Do Your Best and 3. Complete Homework. In each classroom pupils that manage to demonstrate these on a daily basis are in the running for special weekly awards announced every Monday. Well done to all our award winners from Ms. Fawl, Ms. Whitney, Mr. Keane and Mr. Walsh's classes. Best of luck to everyone this week. A remarkable weekend of handball success for Kilkishen N.S. pupils. Doubles partners John MacDonnacha and Cian Donovan were crowned u/11 Munster Double boys champions defeating Tipperary in the final at Nenagh on Sunday January 28. At Kilcolman handball alley, Saorsie Frost was also crowned Munster u/11 Singles Handball champion defeating the Tipperary representative in the final. Everyone at Kilkishen N.S. is extremely proud of your achievements. This week all classes celebrated Catholic Schools Week which ran from January 21-28. Pupils took part in a daily lesson based on this year’s theme Catholic Schools as Communities of Service. On Friday, lessons were based on the theme service in Our Faith Community. Pupils in senior classes invited Fr. Donal Dwyer to visit their classroom and posed questions to Fr. Donal about his life working as a priest. Thank you to Fr. Donal for sharing his experiences and for helping pupils celebrate Catholics Schools Week. The Green-Schools Committee is back in action again and we have a very committed group of children ready to lead Kilkishen National School in tackling the theme of 'Global Citizenship: Litter and Waste'. We will be following the Seven Steps Programme and applying for our 6th award next year. One of the fun initiatives we are taking part in this year is the 'Global Goals Book Club'. Each month, senior members of our Green-Schools Committee will choose one of the Global Goals and read a book about it to different classes throughout the school. They will also engage in delivering some activities to the classes based on the book they have read. Why not try these environmental-themed quizzes to test your knowledge. You can share your results on social media @greenschoolsire! greenschoolsireland.org/greenschools-quizzes/

All of us here in Kilkishen National School are very excited to be taking part in this year's Eason Spelling Bee 2024!
We had a lot of fun this week running the qualifying rounds in Miss Fawl and Miss Whitney's classrooms. The competition is only open to children in 5th and 6th Class but every child in 4th Class also took part and it's fair to say, next year's competition will be just as fierce as this year's. Well done to all who took part. Four children from 5th Class and four children from 6th Class went through from the qualifiers to a semi-final which was held yesterday. Well done to Lauren, Moya, Aoibheann, Filip, Kahlan, Molly, Daragh and Hudson on reaching this round of the competition. Amazing spelling was showcased and after a number of 'Sudden Death' rounds, Moya, Aoibheann and Hudson progressed to the final. After a very tense and gripping finale, where each child blew us away with their spelling skills, Hudson emerged as our King Bee and therefore will be going forward to represent Kilkishen N.S. at the county finals. We wish him all the luck in the world. Boys and girls from 6th class competed in the annual Marion Keane Memorial primary basketball competition on Thursday January 18 at Shannon Leisure Centre. Kilkishen N.S. were grouped with Tulla N.S., Kilmurry N.S. and Bridgetown N.S. in both the girls and boys competitions. Our boys team have qualified for Round 2 of the competition with victories in all 3 games. Our girls team were narrowly defeated by Tulla N.S. and Bridgetown and recorded a hard fought draw with Kilmurry N.S. Well done to both teams on representing our school so well. Star performers on the day included Filip Wojdak, Padraig O'Brien, Alex Davey in the boys matches with Kahlan Kennedy, Sophie McArthur and Leah Roberts shinning for the girls team. Best of luck to our boys in Round 2 to be played next month. 4th and 5th Class tuned in to the Someone Like Me Art Competition Awards Ceremony today to celebrate this years winners. Although we didn't have any winners from our class, we were honoured to take part and all participating schools were thanked for contributing to the overall success of the event. So much creativity and talent was showcased by the children and they can all be very proud of their work. The Awards Ceremony was a fun event and some famous faces even made a guest appearance. Well done to all who took part and we look forward to entering again next year.

The final lawyers of stone are being installed before the laying of synthetic grass and padding. We are eagerly looking forward to the completion of the project. We hope by the end of January the completed project will be ready to be used. January 11 January 12 The students of 2nd and 3rd class started the new year creating their Mathletics accounts and exploring the new resource on their laptops. They loved the group work element and also the fact that you can test your math skills against other pupils from all over the world.
