World Book Day in Ireland was celebrated on Thursday 1st March. Due to the unexpected but wonderful snowy weather, we celebrated World Book Day in 3rd and 4th Class today. The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading. We engaged in lots of fun book-based activities and shared stories with each other. The children came to school dressed as some of their favourite characters from books they have read and they visited the other classrooms to show off their costumes. Every child then spoke to the class about their all-time favourite book. Last night, for homework, the children were set reading challenges such as reading to their toys or reading while wearing a hat and gloves. They were also encouraged to share a 10 minute story with somebody at home. In class the children rewrote classic stories in a comic format and they designed a display for our novel The Hiring Fair. Working in pairs the children also described characters from popular books and their partner had to draw them. Costumes and Favourite BooksReading ChallengesComments are closed.
